The Story of Things

This weekend at the Brooklyn Comics and Graphics Festival:

3:00 | TAKING INVENTORY: THE STORY OF THINGS

In their most conventionally narrative form, comics develop a storyboard-like continuity from panel to panel. But how isolated can a panel be? Renée French, James McShane, Jungyeon Roh and Leanne Shapton will discuss the ways in which they construct or suggest narratives by assembling images of objects and moments that retain their individual integrity.

And you can find me sharing table #9 with Mickey Zachilli, Jo Dery, Mike Taylor, Caroline Pacquita and Jacob Berendes.

Good Grooming

I've given some attention to my portfolio site jamesmcshane.com. Regular readers of this blog will have seen many of the drawings already.

The most notable addition is the "minicomics" section were I've added pictures of some of the books I've put together over the years. Usually 30-100 copies of these existed and were sold at conventions, secretly placed between vegetables at the grocery store, or distributed by Buenaventura Press, and the old Catastrophe Shop.

I would appreciate your feedback on the looks and usability of everything. Thanks!

Voting Early, but Not So Often - NYT Op Ed

(You can click to enlarge the images.)

I have a silent comic in the Op Ed section of the New York Times today. It illustrates an article by Barry C. Burden and Kenneth R. Mayer about the pitfalls of early voting. They present a possible solution here:

Drawing Day Results

Wednesday afternoons I have been getting together with some local weirdos for drawing sessions. These are all from one sitting that went particularly well.

Sumi ink, french press coffee, and rubber horses for reference.

Sorry these aren't actual comics. I am just busy trying to reskill.
